During the weekend, after the successful release of the movie Deadpool & Wolverine fans of MCU were shocked to know that Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the Marvel franchises again but not as the fan favourite character “Iron Man”, but in a new role in the form of a villain. Fans were surprised to find out that Robert Downey Jr is not playing any ordinary villain role but the Mighty Dr Doom himself, a villain famous of being an arch enemy of the Fantastic Four Comic series. This could be a make-or-break decision for the Marvel Studio because many fans of the MCU found themselves being confused about the casting of Robert Downey Jr as Doctor Doom.
In the past weekend a Comic-Con was held in the city of San Diego, Marvel studio announced a total of five movies the first one was “Avengers Brave new world” with Anthony Mike returning as Captain America, the second and third movies were “Thunderbolts” and “Fantastic Four: The First Step”. And last movies being the “Avengers Doomsday” and “Avenger Secret Wars”. A roar of joyful screams by the crowd when they saw Anthony Russo and his brother Joe Russo walked up the stage. Anthony and Joe Russo formerly Directed the movies Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Avengers: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019).
Suddenly after the announcement of Avengers: Secret Wars a group of man wearing long hoody clothes and silver masks start walking up the stage and at the same a roar of screams by the crowd could be heard when they saw Avengers: Doomsday come up the screen behind the hooded clothes men. A man wearing a green suit step forward out of the group of silver masked men, he takes off his silver mask and revealing his face to the crowd. The Crowd went into a frenzy when they saw the man behind the silver mask was no other than Iron man himself Robert Downey Jr. Robert Downey Jr said to his fans in the crowd that’s it’s a new mask, but the task is same, and how he likes playing the role of complicated characters.
Doctor Doom real name is Victor von Doom. His origin story revolves around him being an arch rival of Reed Richard who is leader of the Fantastic Four. Reed Richard is also his college roommate and from there their feud starts. Victor main goal which he was crazily chasing was to find a way to somehow communicate with his deceased mother by building some sort of machine which can communicate with the dead people. Victor von Doom later on tries to build the machine which got tampered by Ben Grimm which also results in an explosion, burning his body and scaring his face. Victor gets rescued by a group of monks where he builds his metal suit armor and his metal mask. Victor von Doom is driven mad for what has happened to him, he craves for power and absolute control over the human world due to his madness of being superior to others. He becomes Doctor Doom at the end.
The casting of Robert Downey jr as Victor Don Doom by Marvel Studio is more of a cash grab move and a move to avoid risk for some reason. Doctor Doom is a villain on the same level as Thanos, by casting Robert Downey Jr as Doom makes Doctor Doom nothing more than what if Tony stark get evil type of a character ruining his image as a solid villain. I also think Marvel casting of Robert Downey Jr as Doctor Doom is a move to get their old fans audience back and let them start watching their new movies. Robert Downey Jr also share no connection with Doctor Doom because Robert Downey Jr was not casted as Doom in the very first fantastic four movie. So there no connection between Tony Stark and Victor von Doom as a character. What they should have done is first properly make a new Doctor Doom saga with a fresh face and this move would have pulled a lot of the old fans of the marvel franchises back. But companies like Marvel studio don’t learn from their mistake like the multiverse seriously and repeat it again. Only the mask of Doom can save Victor now and hide Tony face behind it forever, never revealing it.
