Bad boys: Ride or Die was releasing this summer in the month of June 2024. In the opening scene in Miami city, Mike aka Will Smith and Marcus aka Martin Lawerence are being seen traveling in Porsche 911 on a busy road. Mike is seen having an argument with Marcus of them being late, Marcus complain to Mike that he is driving the car to fast, and he needs to slow down because he is getting sick. Mike cut off Marcus’s argument that Marcus already had made them late. Marcus says to Mike that his stomach is hurting, and Mike should pull over at the nearby store, so he can have a ginger ale. Mike says he doesn’t have time for this, Marcus then pretend to throw up and car comes to a stop near a grocery store. Mike gives Marcus 85 second to get his stuff down in the grocery store. We can see in the next scene Marcus walking inside the store, and he goes to Kid candy section where he proceeds to eat a candy bar and grab the ginger ale from the near container. Marcus then goes to the main counter where the shopkeeper is present and order’s a hotdog. Marcus then eats the hotdog meanwhile a thug shows up behind Marcus and aims his gun to his head and at the shopkeeper. Marcus has an argument with the thug that’s he getting late and if the thug doesn’t put his gun down, a very grumpy man will show up and both of them are doomed then. Thug doesn’t listen to Marcus’s argument and Mike shows up at the crime scene, on witnessing the crime Mike tells Marcus to get in the car on which Marcus reply that there is a gun aimed at his head. Mike again tells Marcus to get in the car on which Marcus quickly grabs the thug gun and put it in a direction where nobody can get hurt and Mike shoots the thug in the leg. Marcus says to Mike, that it was not necessary to shoot the guy in the leg on which Mike reminds him to “get in the car”. The scene end with Mike slapping Marcus’s hand, knocking out the jellybean candy out of his hand.
The movie has it fair share of good and thrilling scene, but the best ones are the ones involving Marcus and Mike friendship. Marcus having his new spiritual episodes after having a heart attack at Mike wedding and how Mike sits right by his side in the hospital and helps him make sense. The scene where Fletcher gets snipe in the head and a fight that breaks out where Mike and Marcus are being seen battling the villain party members inside the club is one of the good action scene of the movie, Marcus losing his mind after drinking the red sugar juice and start fighting the bad guys out of cover with his dual akimbo guns while Mike tries to cover him up. The chase between Mike and the bad guy on the bridge while dodging the oncoming traffic is also brilliant. During which Mike loss his consciousness and have a panic attack while nearly getting killed by the villain car. The mystery surrounding the main villain during the early parts of the movie is also very engaging as well as thrilling. How the bad boys try to solve of this mystery villain and him being a step ahead of the Bad boys. His portrayal of Captain Conard being a bad cop while involved in Bad practise with a drug load and how he turns the police force against the Bad boys and make them become the primary suspects is amazing.
The prison courtyard fight scene involving Mike’s son Jacob Scipio is also filled with serious action and suspense. Jacob doing his dead lifting in the gym section of the prison courtyard while the mystery villain sends his henchmen after him to kill him and dispose the living evidence who can expose the mystery villain true identity. Jacob using the weight tied to the cloth as a flail mace to beat the incoming attackers. Jacob decimating his attackers in a bone crushing hand to hand combat is a delight to see. The fight inside the flying chinook helicopter is also a thriller where the Bad Boys find out that the helicopter has been hijacked and the pilot has been killed by the main villain and his henchman, so they try to fight out the bad guy which is a struggle because the tail part of the chinook helicopter has been blown to bits by the main villain with a bomb and Mike son Jacob is also trap inside a cage on the falling helicopter. The best action scene of the movie by this point because of the great level of the fighting struggle between Bad Boys and the main villain, plus the tension of the falling helicopter all add up to the scene. Will Smith is also seen in a commanding role in most of the action scenes in the movie. The cohesive storytelling makes this movie unique and interesting, and a must see one to watch in a theatre.
The Marcus character seem sometimes out of place and disconnected from the world after him getting a second life after he suffers a heart attack during Mike wedding and how he becomes a liability for Will Smith in early parts of the movie. The new narrative change for the Martin Lawrence (Marcus) character makes him a little weak against the Will Smith character. The unnecessary use of flat jokes in some part of the movie makes it a little awkward sometimes. Jacob Scipio character also feels like a nobody in the rest of the movie after his thrilling fight scene in the prison. The helicopter crash scene in the lake and heroes landing so far from the helicopter only getting minorly injured, made the scene look a little bit weird and bizarre.
Jacob throwing away his diving equipment in the gator park, and not diving back into the water to avoid eye contact with the enemy but instead opening fire on the henchman and exposing the team location was also an unintelligent move choice and made his character look weak. The poor acting in some parts of the movie and the unnecessary comedy in other parts of the movie makes the movie look a little bit good acting deficient and also clearly ridiculous sometimes.
Bad Boys: Ride or Die has the action required for the movie to be successful, it has the right amount of mystery elements also. Plus, the comedic scene between the Bad boys makes its a fantastic movie to watch with your family and friends. I give it a solid 8 out of 10.
